A programme was held on 28 July 2017 at Molehe Mampe Secure Care Centre in honour of 67 minutes of selflessness for the late Rolihlahla Mandela. The programme was run in conjunction with the Management of Molehe Mampe and the Office of the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Honourable Raseriti Papi Tau, who is based in Parliament in Cape Town.
Mr Tau once worked as a volunteer child and youth care worker at Molehe Mampe around 1995 and moved through the ranks to become Deputy Chair of the NCOP. In order
to plough back to the community where his career started, he donated books to children and youth admitted at the centre.
The event was a huge success and was attended by four councillors from the Sol Plaatje Municipality, the Speaker of Sol Plaatje, the HOD for Social Development,
Ms H. Samson, parliamentary officials, the District Director, the Director Restorative Services, VIP Protection Services, staff and children from Molehe Mampe and Lorato Place of Safety, the District Management Team as well as the choir from Assemblies of God which rendered music of high class and standard.
The programme went well albeit the fact that the Honourable Member could not make it to the event due to a sudden misfortune that befell him but gratitude must be given to his parliamentary team that saw it fit to continue with the programme without any glitches.

On Nelson Mandela International Day staff members Welfare Services gathered at the Caltex Garage in Barkley Road, before they reached out to older persons in the Chris Hani Park community. They handed over some slippers and blankets to the following elderly women:

- 7. Anna Kivebs
- 8. Liesbeth Diki
They were joined by members of Population Development, who had the same idea. Staff members of the Directorate: Special Needs, cooked soup and baked vetkoek, to distribute to the “Men on the Side of the Road” and at the Municipal Dumping Site. At the same time the Gender & Transformation Unit and the Manager in the Office of the HoD gave out seven (7) packs of oranges to the needy at the Dumping Site. They managed to feed more than 100 people.

On 18 July 2017, a team of workers from V-SLOTS (Vukani Gaming Corporation) in Kimberley, one of South Africa's leading route operators of limited pay-out machines visited young persons at Molehe Mampe Secure Care Centre.
They had round table discussions with the young persons on their challenges, what brought them to the Centre and how they can overcome their challenges. They also served young persons sandwiches and juice and also assisted the kitchen staff by serving lunch cooked to 25 boys admitted at the Centre.

Molehe Mampe Staff, Cosatu: Kimberley branch members, SANCO and Department of Sports, Arts & Culture joined hands to pledge 67 minutes at the Galeshewe Old Age Home in Hulana Street. DSAC donated beds, blankets and food parcels, while all present engaged in cooking, cleaning the yard, fixing the toilets and painting the rooms.

The Department delivered food and helped clean Proisies Angels in Douglas, a home that was converted to a Centre for disabled children and young people, between the ages of 0 to 21. The Centre is run by a NGO and Ms. Sarah Visser, the founder, is heading the facility. The Centre serves up to 60 children on any given day and rely on donations from the public to serve children, those very dear to Madiba.

The Kimberley Golf Club in consultation with the Head of the Department, Ms. Drinie Samson, initiated a Golfers Blanket Drive as part of their Mandela Initiative. All golfers were requested to donate a blanket in aid of the needy. MEC Gift van Staden accompanied by the HOD, Ms. Sampson and Executive Managers, Melanie Kivedo and Tapsy Saul received the blankets at the prize giving. Prizes were made possible by donations from business.
The MEC and HOD expressed their gratitude and it is envisaged that this is but the start to a partnership that will benefit the people in need of social relief.
The Department will be responsible for ensuring that this noble gesture be put to good use and that those in need receive the blankets.
