NDA South African Early Childhood Development Award winners announced in the Northern Cape
The National Development Agency (NDA), an agency of the National Department of Social Development, is committed to the development and advancement of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector in South Africa. The South African Early Childhood Development (SA ECD) Awards are a tool used by the NDA to support the development of the ECD sector by recognising excellence, innovation, best practice, dedication and participation throughout South Africa.
There is overwhelming scientific evidence that confirms the importance of the early years for human development and to the need for investing resources to support and promote optimal child development from conception. Lack of opportunities and interventions, or poor quality interventions, during early childhood can significantly disadvantage young children and diminish their potential for success.
By recognising and awarding the contributions being made in the ECD sector despite the vast challenges, the NDA is firstly bringing about awareness of the importance of the ECD sector, and secondly also encouraging the sector to ensure that children receive quality ECD education.
The Northern Cape provincial SA ECD Awards ceremony took place today awarded two Categories, Best ECD Centre and Best ECD Practitioner. The other categories which are - Best ECD Publication, Best ECD Trainer, Best ECD Training & Intervention and Best ECD Programme supporting babies and young children with disabilities, will be awarded at the National SA ECD Awards to be hosted in April 2016 in Gauteng.
