Molehe Mampe celebrated the 41st anniversary of June 16 with young persons admitted at the Centre. The event took place on a public holiday, 16 June 2017.
Numerous stakeholders that included the Youth Against Crime (YAC) the Uniting Reformed Church Youth Mission (URCYM), the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and staff of the Molehe Mampe braved the cold weather to support our youth. Mr Thabo Mokgalagadi (Nehawu Shopstewards and Child & Youth Care Worker at Molehe Mampe) was the Programme Director for the event and handled the programme very well. Mr Lebitso, the Institutional Manager was thanked to welcome all guests and everybody who attended the event.
The event was graced with the singing of spiritual renditions by the youth from the Uniting Reformed Church, the preaching of the word of God by a very young and talented Apostle as well as singing of the Nkosi Sikelili Africa. The young persons were taught about the events leading to June 16 in Soweto, how the education system has evolved in South Africa today as well as the role the young people in South Africa can play towards thier econmomic and academic emancipation.
The event ended with a braai for the guests, the staff memebers who attended as well as all young people at the centre. My gratitude as Manager of the Institution goes to all staff members who sacrificed their time to attend this event as it took place on a public holiday.
Once a public servant, always a public servant!!!
Soccer @ Molehe Mampe:
The South African Police Services (SAPS) organized a soccer tournament at Molehe Mampe Secure Care Centre on 23 June 2017 in celebration of Youth Month.
The following stakeholders formed part of the organizing committee for this event:
- Department Social Development (Molehe Mampe)
- Wanya Tsotsi (a community crime combating initiative in Kimberley)
- Sol Plaatje Municipality (Office of the Mayor)
- The VW Volkswagen Social Club
- Department of Correctional Sevices
- Youth Against Crime (YAC)
- Department Rural Development
- Lifeline
Mr Leon Sebolai (Managaer Community Development) on behalf of the FB District Manager welcomed all the Guests and participants present at the event. Sergeant Schalkie delivered a speech on behalf of the SAPS as Brigadier Adonis was not feeling well. Mr Lebitso declared the tournament officially opened after the rules of the after the rules of the tournament was discussed. Lifeline was also on site and while the games ere being played, community members got a chance to be tested for diabetes, Hypertension and HIV/AIDS. The first game was between Molehe Mampe Young persons versus the Correctional Services and ended 3-1 in favour DCS.
The second game was between Wanya Tsotsi and SAPS and ended 2 -1 in favour of SAPS and the finals between Wanya Tsotsi and SAPS ended 2-0 in favour of SAPS.
The SAPS Team recieved 20 Gold Medals and a floating trophy presented by the Sol Plaatje Municipality and the runner ups received silver medals.
A young person from the institution was chosen as the overall player of the tournament and received a trophy.
The event ended very well and fostered good relations between community members, the SAPS, DCS and the children detained at our centre.
The Sol Plaatje Municipality donated water, hot dogs, oranges and juices for the event as the main sponsor.
