Exco reach out to Pixley ka Seme District

The Northern CAPE Province Executive Council, led by Premier Sylvia Lucas embarked on an outreach program to the Pixley Ka Isaka Seme district, on a service delivery and fact finding mission, from the 29th- 31st August 2017.

Four towns were identified, namely Noupoort, Hanover, Richmond and Victoria West.

The program started in the morning in Noupoort, with different departments led by respective MEC's visiting numerous sites where they handed over a range of aid packages, dignity Packs, Tittle Deeds, Food Parcels and to Toys and educational material for children at ECD Centres.

This was followed by an Imbizo on the 29th where the Executive Council, Heads of departments and Officials could interact on a personal level with the communities on issues affecting them and those there viewed as concerns. The same was done in Hanover in the afternoon, where another Imbizo was held. Some of the issues, which came out strongly was Stock theft, Housing, Unemployment, lack of opportunities for young people to go and study, Poverty.                                                                                                  
 
On the 30th August 2017, MEC Gift Van Staden, accompanied by members of the Senior Management of the department and the district management team, visited and handed over Toys to Zamakukhanya ECD Centre, in Richmond.

The centre was established in 1987, and currently caters for 87 children between the ages of 3-5 years. Seven people are employed on a full-time basis. An Imbizo was also held after the different outreach programs were concluded.

31st August 2017, after the House sitting, MEC Van Staden proceeded to Lukhanyo Day Care Centre, in Ubuntu, Victoria West, where the staff and community were happy to meet with MEC and the team. They explained to the MEC, how frustrated they are, a the building is always being vandalized, and there are constant break-ins that they are confronted with. The MEC made a commitment to send officials from physical planning to make an assessment and deal with some of the renovations, primarily the windows, which were mainly vandalized.

The centre was established 29th January 1999, and employs 7 people on a full-time basis, and houses 132 children. Between the ages of 0 and 5 years of age.

THE Executive Council later concluded the outreach program with an Imbizo in Ubuntu.
