Minister Lindiwe Zulu's visit 7 - 8 January 2020

 
The National Minister for Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu was in the Province early in January meeting the following:
• NDA FUNDED Project in ZFM, Upington,
• Meeting with SASSA Staff, and Dialogue with Men's Forum.
• Engagement with Older Person's in Frances Baard District, Kimberley, GASCA!!!
Ubunele Cooperative:
The name of the project is Ubunele Primary Cooperative Limited. The project is a home based initiative formed by two young persons', situated at 52 Kanna Street, Progress, Upington, 8801. The project commenced business operations in 2017. The cooperative is registered under section 7 of the cooperatives act, 2005, with registration number: 2017/000387/24. The cooperative primarily works in the sewing industry; thus they specialize in the design or manufacturing of school uniforms as their core function. A youthful project initiative, being operational for approximately two (2) years. The staff complement consists of seven (7) members - all female.
NDA interventions:
The cooperative received funding from NDA to the value of R44 617.87. The project was able to procure all the necessary contractually agreed industrial machinery.
• The Northern Cape SMME Trust funded the project with R150 000 in 2018. The funds were used to assist in the procurement of industrial sewing machinery.
• The project received a SASSA order from the Springbok District office, as part of the Social Relief of Distress Programme, valued at R134 750, in order to supply 70 School Uniform Packs dated for the year 2018 - which the project successfully produced.
• The project received a SASSA order from the Upington District office, as part of the Social Relief of Distress Programme, valued at R101 780, in order to supply 57 School Uniform Packs, dated for the year 2018 - which the project successfully produced.
• The project received a SASSA order from the De Aar District office, as part of the Social Relief of Distress Programme, valued at R169 760, in order to supply 94 School Uniform Packs for both boys (58) and girls (36) dated for the year 2018 - which the project successfully produced.
• The project received a SASSA order from the De Aar District office, as part of the Social Relief of Distress Programme, valued at R69 690, in order to supply 36 School Uniform Packs for both boys (21) and girls (15) dated for the year 2019 - which the project successfully produced.
Challenges: The lack of financial management. However, the CSO is earmarked for financial management training in 2020/21.
Recommendations: The NDA already equipped the organisation in both organisational governance and conflict management training. Further training will be scheduled for 20/21, in order to equip the staff on how to properly manage their finances. The steadily growth of the project, will be consistently monitored and evaluated in order to aid the general growth of the project.
The Minister was also in Upington to address amongst others the Men's Forum on the continued violence being perpetrated against Women and Children. It Minister held a strong view that, the crimes against women and children remains a pervasive feature of life in South Africa with devastating consequences for our society
