The Pixley ka Seme District under the leadership of the MEC for Social Development, Ms Nontobeko Vilakazi, kicked the year off with a Back-to-School program in the De Aar and Victoria West areas. Underprivileged children were identified in the following schools: Veritas High, Alpha Primary, St Johns Primary in De Aar, John Rossouw as well as other schools in Victoria West including Hutchison Primary School. The program took place on 18-19 January 2023 when the schools re-opened after the summer holidays. It was a joint program with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), as well as the Department of Education. Social workers worked tirelessly with schools to ensure all extremely impoverished children benefitted from the program. These children were provided with school bags, toiletries or sanitary packs and stationery.
