The Department of Social Development visited the community of Olierivier, Schmidtsdrift, on 19 September 2023. Food parcels were distributed to older persons in the Olierivier community by MEC Nontobeko Vilakazi and her team. Locals assisted with the carrying and handling of the food packages, along with some officials from the Department and the African National Congress.

The elderly gathered at the Community Hall, where the event took place. Most of the older persons, unfortunately, resided a little far and some had health challenges that rendered them incapable of making it to the Hall by foot, but luckily the Department of Social Development had dispatched vehicles to fetch all the older persons so that they could attend the event.

The Department of Social Development showed initiative and ambition in this program and tended to the majority of the goals set out to be achieved in Olierivier, Schmidtsdrift; the distribution of food parcels and recognition for the older part of the community, reminding them that they are not forgotten, but loved and cherished and most of all respected.
