Gender & Transformation Unit: Men's Forum Launches

The recent spate of brutal attacks on women, children and other vulnerable groups within our communities and society in general, has prompted the Provincial Government to a “Call to Action Campaign'', to address violence and abuse in a coordinated and systematic manner.

International Children’s Day

The Gender & Transformation unit of the Department, in partnership with Cell C had a “Take a Child to Work” day on 29 May 2017 at Lerato Place of Safety The keynote address was delivered by the HOD, Ms. Samson.  In her speech she said that the future of the Country belongs to the children; boys, girls, and the youth, because the government, in particular the Department of Social Development value, care and take them serious.

Whilst doing personal visits to various households in Upington, MEC for Social Development, accompanied by the Acting Head of Department, Ms Shouneez Kimmie-Wookey visited a family where there is no parent or adult present in the home. 

Long Service Awards 2016/2017

The annual Long Service Awards took place on Thursday, 24 August 2017, at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre. The MEC, Father Gift van Staden, delivered the Keynote address. In his speech he thanked and gave recognition to the “lifeblood” of the Department who served with loyalty and distinction, singling out the Care Givers at the Institutions.

Nelson Mandela International Day

A programme was held on 28 July 2017 at Molehe Mampe Secure Care Centre in honour of 67 minutes of selflessness for the late Rolihlahla Mandela. The programme was run in conjunction with the Management of Molehe Mampe and the Office of the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Honourable Raseriti Papi Tau, who is based in Parliament in Cape Town.
